Hey Everyone, 

I am the Emma that was featured in The Great Wall of China Trek Pamphlet earlier this year. I was part of an amazing team of 10 who raised $72,000 for melanoma research by climbing The Great Wall Of China in September 2017. Man was it hard, but despite my illness I didn’t let it get in my way. I was determined and I pushed on giving it everything I had. Just like I am with my current  Melanoma

battle. 

I have been battling Melanoma for the past 3 years and it progressed sadly into stage 4 around 18 months ago. I got my first clear scan in 3 years, last Xmas back in December 2016 and sadly the celebrations only lasted 5 months cancer free, when a PET scan in May 2017 has confirmed my cancer has returned. I currently have 3 met stat nodules in my lungs, 6 in my brain and 3 in my spine (sitting on nerve endings which affects my mobility. Hence currently being in a wheel

chair.)

I am currently on my last treatment option being vemurafenib / cobimerinin now. I call them the vampire tablets as I can’t go in the sun at all without my skin blistering. Not to the letterbox, not to the clothes line, not even sitting as a passenger in the car. The sun literally burns your skin like acid. I have to be covered in sunscreen to leave the house and covered from head to toe in clothing. What an awesome quality of life it is that I have.

I have been on tafinlar/mekinkst combo, I done 3 months of keytruda and 1 lot of Yevroy/Optivo which gave me severe colitis, which forced me to stop. All in which didn’t work and brings me to my last treatment option. If the vampire tablets don’t work, I have been informed I am out of options and there is nothing more they can do for me. I am currently under palliative care and writing this from my hospital bed (hoping to get out before Xmas), I am currently in a wheel chair and this is a lot to take on at the age of 32 but I am coming out of my corner swinging. I’m giving this everything I have got!! 

My mission is to help fundraise money for research, in hope that one day we can find a cure so others in the future don’t have to go through what im going through.  There is no cure for stage 4 Melanoma, we are just waiting on new treatments to become available to keep my battle going. None of this is possible without funding. Every dollar counts!!!

1 Australian dies of Melanoma every 6 hours. Im not ready to be a statistic, I didnt go down without a fight last time and im definately not going down this time either!!! Who knows what the future holds, but I’m doing the best I can to make it as bright as possible. Help me make this possible. Without new treatments the harsh reality sadly is I will die!!!
